The University of Vilnius, one of the oldest and most famous establishments of higher education in Eastern and Central Europe, was founded in 1579. Functioning for a long time as the only school of higher learning in Lithuania, it was a preserver of cultural and scientific traditions, and has played a significant part in the cultural life not only of Lithuania, but the neighboring countries as well. The institution comprises 8 faculties - those of Physics and Technology; Natural Sciences, History, Lithuanian Philology; Mathematics; Pedagogy and Psychology; Slavonic Philology and Foreign Languages. Kaunas University of Medicine is the largest institution of medical education and training in Lithuania. Principal teaching language is Lithuanian. Foreign students are instructed in English. Klaipeda University, being one of the youngest among Lithuanian university level high schools, gives its priorities to education of the intellectual society and person. Mykolas Romeris University is a modern, dynamic and fast growing university that is a full member of international higher education organizations. The University prepares specialists at Bachelor, Master ad Doctoral studies, that go in conformity with the Bologna Declaration as well as meet the latest development tendencies of the world higher education. SU cooperates with over 70 foreign higher education institutions under the Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci, Youth, Nordic Council of Ministries, Equal, Phare, Eureka, and FP6 programmes. We have signed an important agreement with the other higher schools in Kaunas to expand educational possibilities at the University. Students may now attend lectures in other higher schools and their examination and credits taken elsewhere are recognized and counted.
